Temperature Converter

Convert between Celsius, Fahrenheit, and Kelvin instantly.

32

Fahrenheit (°F)

The three formulas

  • Celsius to Fahrenheit: °F = (°C × 9/5) + 32
  • Fahrenheit to Celsius: °C = (°F − 32) × 5/9
  • Celsius to Kelvin: K = °C + 273.15

Worked example

A pleasant room temperature of 22°C converts to (22 × 9/5) + 32 = 71.6°F, and to 22 + 273.15 = 295.15 K.

A few reference points worth remembering

  • Water freezes at 0°C / 32°F / 273.15 K
  • Water boils at 100°C / 212°F / 373.15 K (at sea level)
  • Normal human body temperature is about 37°C / 98.6°F
  • −40° is the one point where Celsius and Fahrenheit agree: −40°C = −40°F

Frequently asked questions

Why can't temperature just use a simple multiplier like other unit converters?+

Because Celsius, Fahrenheit, and Kelvin don't share a common zero point — 0°C is 32°F, not 0°F. Converting between them requires an offset (and a scale factor for Fahrenheit), not just multiplication.

What is Kelvin used for?+

Kelvin is the scientific standard for absolute temperature — 0 K ("absolute zero") is the coldest physically possible temperature, equal to -273.15°C. It's used throughout physics, chemistry, and engineering.
