Frequently asked questions
Why doesn't the quality slider shrink my PNG very much?+
PNG is a lossless format — there's no quality knob to trade off, only how efficiently the same exact pixels are packed. For a real size reduction on a PNG, convert it to JPG or WebP first (see the Convert Image Format tool), which do support lossy compression.
Will this reduce the image's dimensions (width/height)?+
No — only the file size, by re-encoding at a lower quality. Use the Resize Image tool if you also want smaller dimensions, which combines well with compression for the biggest size savings.
Is there a file size limit?+
No artificial limit — compression happens entirely on your own device, so there's no server-side cap or subscription tier to hit.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?+
No. This tool runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript — your image is read, compressed, and downloaded without ever being sent to a server.
Keep a backup of your original file. This tool processes everything locally in your browser, and we've tested it carefully — but no conversion tool handles every PDF perfectly. Always keep your original file and double-check important results before relying on them.
